Drawing Challenge

My prop for this project was a brown satin scrunchie. I used the scrunchie to braid Shaya’s hair into different hairstyles which I then did on my own hair, are tighter curl pattern. I wanted to explore the impact that hair had and still has on me as an individual and bring attention to the mundane but essential routine of doing hair.

This project ended up influencing other projects I did in other art classes to further explore the complexities of African American girls and their hair journeys to the present.
